Mark the MUAC aims redesigns the Middle Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape while ensuring its accuracy. The MUAC tape is used in developing countries to diagnose children with malnutrition. Yet, the adoption of the tool is diminutive; 1 out of 4 mothers trained to use the MUAC tape never screen their child, and many more use the MUAC tape only once. In partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), we redesigned the existing MUAC tape by introducing a new marking mechanism to increase its usage cadence and improve accessibility. The team has gone through 4 iterations of the tape and tested with 4 babies within the range of 12-49 months. The final prototypes have been dispatched to Mali, enabling the IRC to conduct additional testing in that location.
